Story of the creation
This tiny Facehugger, inspired by the famous "Alien" saga, is one of my very first amigurumi designs. I created it in November 2014, only four months after I learned how to crochet. As I was just starting out, I took the opportunity to simplify as much as possible the design of the Facehugger by reproducing the main characteristics of this little beast : the eight limbs, the tail, the breathing flaps and a relief shape to draw its "back", just to know in what orientation it is. The objective, despite its small size and its few details, was that we had to recognize it !
At the very beginning, the tutorial was available as a PDF on Ravelry but, following many questions about parts that were a little blurry and/or poorly translated (oops !), I reworked it so that the explanations were clearer, more detailed and accompanied by many photos : very well adapted for beginners !

Useful informations
- This pattern is written in US terms.
- You can use any yarn as long as it is beige or flesh-coloured, with a corresponding hook. However, if you use the same thread references and the same hook as me, your Facehugger will have a size of approximately 24 cm (9.45") long by 17 cm (6.7") wide.
- The stitches indicated between brackets — e.g. (1hdc, 1dc) — are crocheted in the same stitch.
- This pattern is worked in the spiral : don't close the rounds with a slip stitch.
- To avoid a "sharp" effect, the increases will be crocheted in offset (instructions are already written in this way). For more information, I invite you to read this very good post from Ahooka here.
- Round 7 is explained in several steps to make it more understandable (7.01, 7.02...).
- For the limbs and the tail, be careful not to twist the chain when making the stitches.
- To shape the limbs and the tail, you can block them and/or use wire.
- Feel free to tick the small next to the rows when you have finished them !

7.01- In the first stitch : 1sc, 1hdc, 1dc, 1tr, 1dtr
7.02- In the next stitch : 1dtr, 1tr
7.03- In the following stitch : 1hdc, 1sc
7.04- Make 2sc
7.05- Then, make the 1st limb : ch15, 14sc in the 2nd st from hook, 1sc on the body to join
7.06- Make 1sc on the body to start a new limb
7.07- Make the 2nd limb : ch16, 15sc in the 2nd st from hook, 1sc on the body to join
7.08- Make 1sc on the body to start a new limb
7.09- Make the 3rd limb : ch17, 16sc in the 2nd st from hook, 1sc on the body to join
7.10- Make 1sc on the body to start a new limb
7.11- Make the 4th limb : ch18, 17sc in the 2nd st from hook, 1sc on the body to join

7.15- Make the 6th limn : ch17, 16sc in the 2nd st from hook, 1sc on the body to join
7.16- Make 1sc on the body to start a new limb
7.17- Make the 7th limb : ch16, 15sc in the 2nd st from hook, 1sc on the body to join
7.18- Make 1sc on the body to start a new limb
7.19- Make the 8th and last limb : ch15, 14sc in the 2nd st from hook, 1sc on the body to join
7.20- Make 2sc
7.21- Then, in the next stitch : 1sc, 1hdc
7.22- In the following stitch : 1tr, 1dtr
7.23- In the next stitch : 1dtr, 1tr, 1dc, 1hdc, 1sc
7.24- Make 2sc
7.25- Finish with the tail : ch35, 7sc in the 2nd st from hook, 27hdc, 1sc on the body to join the tail on it
7.26- 1sc on the st where the marker should be located to close

The breathing flaps
Pick up each breathing flaps in turn, at the corresponding locations shown in the photos below, to enlarge them.
Tie the new thread by making only one slst and then, from the next stitch, make :
1- (1sc, 1hdc), 1dc, 1tr, (2tr), (2tr), 1tr, 1dc, (1hdc, 1sc) and 1slst to finish up

The back
1- ch12
2- (1sc, 2hdc, 1sc) in the 2nd st from hook, 9dc, (1sc, 2hdc, 1sc) in the last st, [by continuing on the other side of the chain without turning the work on the other side ; see Drops' video tutorial here] 9dc (26)
Place a stitch marker in the last crocheted stitch.
3- By continuing to work in the round : *1dc* (26)
Finish up with 1slst in the next st.
f/o by leaving a very long thread for sewing.
Sew the back on the right or wrong side of the body, it's up to you ! Don't forget, however, to bend the breathing flaps in the right direction. Slightly stuff the back before making the final stitches.
Note : If, like me, you have a hole in the back, you can close it with one of the threads (the closest one) that was used to sew this back on the body.
Weave up all ends and gently pull the limbs and the tail to replace them correctly.

Gallery of your realisations
Hello! How can I stop the legs twisting? Mine came out so badly, I tried a few times but they always twisted!
Hi ! You can starch them or you can put some steam with an iron once the legs are pinned (like in here : http://clairedanstousseseclats.blogspot.com/2015/10/free-hugs.html). In these cases, you must avoid “playing” with. Hope I helped. 🙂
