Story of the creation
The French magazine Modes&Travaux proposed, a few years ago, to participate in monthly solidarity challenges. Each month, a theme was chosen and the first people to register received the necessary material to make the requested accessory. It could be crochet, knitting or sewing. Once the item(s) was / were finished, they were sent to the magazine, which, by selling them, donated the money to the chosen association of the month.
I took part in Challenge no. 2 and we had to make a bowtie. A tutorial was provided with the DMC Natura Just Cotton ball but we could also design the bowtie we wanted. Here is the tutorial !
I wish you a good crochet time !
Useful informations
- This pattern is written in US terms.
- You can use any yarn as long as you take a corresponding hook. However, if you use the same thread references and the same hook as me, your bowtie will be about 10cm (3.93") by 3,5cm (1.37").
- The small band in the middle is made in tunisian crochet but since it has only a few stitches, we can also crochet it with the same classic crochet hook.
- Feel free to tick the small next to the rows when you have finished them !

The central band
By using a 3mm (D) tunisian crochet hook or with the same crochet hook you use for the rectangle since there are only a very few stitches.
1- ch6
2- Make the first basic row of tunisian crochet (see the technique here)
3- Make the row in Tunisian Purl Stitch — TPS (see the technique here)
Repeat row 3 until you have 4,5cm (1.77") height.
Finish the work by making 1sc in each stitch.

Then, without cutting the yarn, join the two edges by making 6sc through the two layers at the same time.

Cut the yarn by leaving 15cm (5.9") length and weave in the smallest end.
The assembly

Turn the central band over to get the relief of the sc (that were used to join) in the inside. Fold the rectangle in half and pass it through the band.
With the remaining end of the band, sew it on the rectangle by making 2 or 3 small stitches to keep it in place. Pass this end on the front of the work and sew in the button of your choice.

Idea
If you want to put the bowtie on a pin and hang it on a bag or a garment for example, here is an idea of how to do it with a safety pin :
